BURCHELL TRACK, Stage 3, Little River Camp Site to Boar Gully Camp Site

BURCHELL TRACK, Stage 3, Little River Camp Site to Boar Gully Camp Site

This stage is the shortest in distance of the three stages, and the one that we walked most quickly. The fast pace was not due to a lack of climbs and descents: there were the usual long uphill sections and one very steep descent down a steep stony track to a deep gully. Rather, the fast pace was due to the shortage of orchids and the absence of the usual photographers. Cool weather and overcast skies contributed too.

Each section of the Trail has had its own range of vegetation and flowers, and each day’s walk revealed a different selection of orchid species. Today’s featured vegetation was Holly-leaf Grevillea, which was in flower everywhere along the trail, and massive Grass Trees with huge flower spikes. There were several patches of Leopard orchids and even Andrew pointed out one patch!

The Burchell Trail has been so interesting that we may return to it next spring for a second dose of Walking with Wildflowers.
